Exhibit Opportunity: Juneteenth Community Showcase

As a new addition to our Juneteenth celebration – we’re excited to open up a Community Art Show for one day only on Saturday, June 14 at Art Center Waco!
We’re inviting local artists of all ages and experience levels to showcase their work in this community-curated exhibit.
Exhibit Details:
Exhibit Ceremony: Saturday, June 14, 2024 from 2 PM to 5 PM
Location: 701 S 8th St, Waco, TX 76706
This is a local exhibit curated by the community for the community. Artists will receive 100% of the sale.
Exhibit Theme: "Freedom Through Black Hair"
We want to see your take on the New Growth juried exhibition Prospectus (read below).
The theme of the exhibit is Freedom, with a primary focus on Black Hair and its impact on Juneteenth and African-American culture. Artists will creatively explore various cultural and historical contexts of Black hairstyles—from afro to ‘cornrows’ to locs, braids, and more. These unique hairstyles are significant to the empowerment of formerly enslaved Texans and continue to trend in Black culture.
Eligibility:
Artists* working in all visual media. All ages are welcomed. Local residents preferred*
Artwork:
All 2D and 3D* media is eligible. Limited slots are available 3D artwork(s) (sculptures/ceramics/etc)*.
Size Limit:
72x72" (6x6 ft) including the frame
Deadline to Submit:
June 6, 2025 by 11:59 PM CST
Submission Fee:
FREE
Notification of Acceptance:
On or before June 9th.
All chosen artwork must be onsite at Art Center Waco, on June 13th, 2024 by 4:00 PM. Any artwork that does not meet that deadline will not be included in the exhibit. Artists are responsible for dropping off artwork to Art Center Waco by this date. For special requests, email info@abeautifulmessage.org.
